Be True To Yourself - Grandmaster Ted Wong

Written By Reduan Koh on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 | 10:59 AM

Can you really lie to yourself?  If you know that you are being deceitful how can you lie to yourself?  I don’t think you can.  Perhaps you can believe that something is true and it may very well be false.  Your perception of a situation may in fact be your reality but your perception may miss the intended message, or could simply be an incorrect interpretation.

What I mean is can you truly lie to yourself?  Seems to me you know the truth, therefore you lie to others and cheat yourself.  That’s a lose-lose all around.  For example, you can say that during your last (insert martial art match, school test, workout, etc here) and afterwards you say you really gave it your all.  You left it all on the mat and gave it your best.  But you know if you really gave your best or had more left in the gas tank.  You know if you could have done better, tried harder, given more.  You can lie to your coach, teachers and teammates, maybe even your loved ones, but you know the truth. As I mentioned, I don’t think you can lie to yourself; you cheat yourself and lie to others.

At least that’s what I think. Being self serving, perhaps another topic all together, but along the lines of lying to the world, while you know the truth of your underhanded manipulation.  In this case you can’t lie to everyone because some see through the facade and self serving ways with perfect granularity.  But again, you know the truth. Now, if you are true to yourself and act accordingly there is a different outcome.  And that’s a win-win for all involved.  Don’t cheat yourself by being less than forthcoming because really, can you lie to yourself?  Be true to yourself and everything else will fall into place.
Train Hard * Train Smart  * Live well.

In his own words, nothing has been as exciting as being Bruce Lee’s student and close friend. Ted Wong’s first encounter with Bruce Lee was in 1967, in Los Angeles, California. Ted Wong was so impressed by Bruce lee that he decided to study martial arts at Bruce Lee’s Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute in Los Angeles, California.

Shortly after beginning his martial arts studies Bruce Lee saw something special in Ted Wong. Bruce Lee invited Ted Wong to his house, and took him as his private student. He was Bruce Lee’s last private student and has had more time in private instruction with Bruce Lee than any other individual.

Ted Wong worked very hard under the tutelage of Bruce Lee, and not only was he a dedicated student, but he became Bruce Lee’s sparring partner. Ted Wong watched Bruce Lee train and teach the best martial artists of their time, including the undisputed heavy weight full contact Karate Champion Joe Lewis.

Ted Wong is known today as one of the most knowledgable men in the world when it comes to Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kung Do. He is the most qualified person to provide instruction on the advanced stages of Jeet Kune Do. Ted Wong studied under Bruce Lee from 1967 to 1973. He was a board member of the Bruce Lee Foundation.
